Address & Location Issues

🏠 Why isn't my address showing up in the app?

Addresses are provided by participating local authorities and communities. If you're in a participating area but your address doesn't appear, please contact us so we can reach out to your local council for updated address information.

Address & Location Issues

📍 How do I update my location for accurate recycling information?

Update your location from the home screen by selecting the location widget in the top left corner. If no location is selected, it will display "general guidance." You can set your location by manually searching for your address or community name, or by using GPS coordinates for automatic location detection.

Account & Settings

📫 How do I change my home address in the app?

To update your home address, access the location widget on the home screen (top left corner). Select "Manage All Guidance Options," scroll to the properties section, and choose "Search For Your Property." Enter your region, community, and address details. Select your address from the dropdown menu, choose the appropriate recycling scheme, and save your changes. This ensures accurate recycling information and bin day reminders for your location.

Address & Location Issues

🏘️ Why are some house numbers missing from my street?

Address data is provided by local authorities and participating communities. If you're in a participating area with missing house numbers, please let us know. We'll work with your local council to ensure complete address coverage for your street.

Address & Location Issues

📋 How do I add my address if it's missing from the system?

Addresses are managed by participating local authorities and communities. If you're in a participating area and your address is missing, please contact us. We'll coordinate with your local council to obtain the necessary address information and add it to the system.

Recycling Guidance & Information

♻️ How does the app determine what's recyclable in my area?

Scrapp determines local recyclability by combining information from multiple sources: communities, private collection programs, thrift shops, waste haulers, and recycling facilities. This comprehensive approach provides accurate guidance based on your area's available infrastructure and services.

Recycling Guidance & Information

☝️ What should I do if I disagree with the app's recycling guidance?

When in doubt about recycling guidance, choose the safest disposal option. For hazardous items, set them aside and consult local guidance. For potentially recyclable items, follow the principle "when in doubt, throw it out" to avoid contamination. For specific questions about private programs, contact information is provided in the app for direct clarification.

Recycling Guidance & Information

👎 Why does the app say my item can't be recycled when my local center accepts it?

Scrapp's recycling guidance is based on available local data. If alternative disposal options exist (such as store drop-off programs or specialized recycling centers) that aren't reflected in the app, please inform us. We'll gladly add this information to help more users access comprehensive recycling options.

Recycling Guidance & Information

🍯 Why won't my product information update when I try to edit it?

Product updates may take a few moments to appear due to cached data on your device. Submitted updates are reviewed by our team within 48 hours to verify the new information before it becomes live in the app.

Recycling Guidance & Information

❓ How do I report incorrect recycling information for a product?

With over 36 million data points, occasional inaccuracies may occur. You can correct product information directly through the app's product editing flow, or report errors by sending a message through the app. All reported corrections are reviewed by the Scrapp team to ensure accuracy.

Scanning & Technical Issues

🚮 Why does clicking on items automatically mark them as disposed?

By default, Scrapp assumes users looking up disposal information intend to dispose of the item. If you're researching without disposing, simply uncheck the disposal box to prevent the item from being logged as disposed. This default setting supports users actively managing their waste disposal.

Scanning & Technical Issues

🤳 What should I do if the scanner isn't working properly?

Scrapp uses an open-source scanning package that captures most barcodes and QR codes but may struggle in low light or highly reflective conditions. If the scanner doesn't appear on screen, check that camera permissions are enabled for the Scrapp app in your device settings. If scanning issues persist, you can manually enter the barcode or search for products by name using the SmartSearch feature.

Scanning & Technical Issues

📵 What does 'Code 400' error mean when scanning products?

Error code 400 indicates an issue retrieving or submitting data to the server. This typically occurs when no recycling program has been selected, preventing the app from providing location-specific guidance. Ensure you have selected your local recycling scheme to resolve this error.

Scanning & Technical Issues

🛜 Why can't the app connect to the server when scanning?

Scrapp requires an active internet or mobile data connection to provide accurate local recycling guidance. Without connectivity, the app cannot access server data and will display a connection error. Ensure your device has internet access before scanning items.

Bin Day Reminders & Notifications

🗑️ Can I customize when I receive bin day notifications?

Currently, bin day reminder timing is controlled by your local council and cannot be customized. Notifications are scheduled to be sent at 6pm the evening before collection day. We are actively exploring options to allow users to customize notification timing and frequency in future updates.

Bin Day Reminders & Notifications

🔀 How do I change my bin collection day in the app?

Collection schedules are determined by local authorities and communities that use Scrapp. The app cannot modify or control bin collection schedules as these are managed by your local council or waste collection service.

Bin Day Reminders & Notifications

🛑 What should I do if my bin day reminders stopped working?

Bin reminders are regularly updated by your council, so re-subscription is typically unnecessary once initially set up. If reminders stop working after a major app update, updating to the latest version and re-enrolling in bin day reminders should restore functionality.

Scanning & Technical Issues

♻️ Why do I get a 'scheme is required' error when scanning items?

This error occurs when you haven't selected a recycling program or "scheme" in the app. Scrapp requires location and program information to provide accurate, location-specific recycling guidance. To resolve this, select your local recycling scheme in the app settings. If you prefer not to share location data, you can choose "general guidance" for broader recycling advice.

Bin Day Reminders & Notifications

📆 How do I set up bin day reminders in the app?

To set up bin day reminders, navigate to the local authority tab in the top left of the app. Enter your address when selecting your local program to receive bin-specific reminders. A video tutorial for enrolling in bin day reminders is available in the app for step-by-step guidance.

Bin Day Reminders & Notifications

🔔 Why am I not receiving bin day reminder notifications?

Bin day reminders require specific setup conditions to function properly. Scrapp receives bin day data from participating councils, so this service is only available in select areas where councils have enrolled. To receive notifications, you must be enrolled in your local authority program through the location screen in the app. Several factors can interrupt notifications: battery saver mode, disabled push notifications, or lack of cellular/internet connection. Currently, bin day reminders are sent at 6pm the evening before collection day.
