The Scrapp mobile app first launched 4 years ago. We’ve come a long way since the dorm rooms of the University of New Hampshire. To say we’ve been busy in that time is an understatement. Our system has gone through 4 versions, and today we are announcing the altest version!
Navigating the world of waste disposal can feel like trying to read a map without a compass. That's why we're thrilled to announce the relaunch of our Scrapp app - now more powerful, more accessible, and more committed than ever to helping you reduce your waste footprint.
The Origins
For those less familiar with Scrapp, I will take a brief moment to how we started. Scrapp started as a barcoding scanning app that enabled anyone to simply scan a product’s barcode, and learn how to dispose of it wherever they are in the world. We were founded on the idea of radically free, instant information at the point of disposal to make completing the most commonly associated sustainability action - recycling (insert link on study of how many people think recycling more is the most they can do for the environment) - as simple as possible.
Since then, we’ve expanded what we can do, using the same data systems as the original concept, but creating a platform that engages multiple stakeholders with one common data language. This enables you, the reader, to do the right thing by the bin and have peace of mind that we, Scrapp, are working upstream to minimize the amount of waste happening in the first place.
You can learn more about how we improved our mobile app 3 years ago.

What Problem are we Solving with our App
Scrapp tackles three common challenges:
💭 Confusion by the bin
Going zero-waste becomes clear with instant, location-specific disposal information.
📆 Missed collection days
No more stress that you’ve missed a bin (or your neighbor’s after you agreed to do it!)
🌎 Environmental impact anxiety
Transforms into empowerment through knowledge, tracking and waste data verification
What’s New in this Update?
This is what makes this announcement one of the most special and we’re excited to share what we have been up to. Our team has been working tirelessly to bring you features that make sustainable living simpler:

AI-Powered Search
We've officially jumped on the AI-band wagon, but in ways you might not expect. SmartSearch can predict what waste you are searching with more unique search terms (eg. type "Coca-Cola" and "Aluminum Can" will show!)

Available on Web - No app required!
The app is now available via web. You can access the app through your web browser with this link.
And as usual, you can tap into our 100% local disposal guidance wherever you are in the UK, US and Canada. For those not in those regions, you can still use the app but the guidance is more generic guidance based on the industry’s best practices. If you would like you region in the app, drop us an email. We’d love to hear from you.
Helping Organizations go Zero-Waste?
Our platform has been designed to make communicating with different stakeholders a breeze. For us to adopt the circular economy, we need cross-industry collaboration.
So, through Scrapp, Brands and Retailers can onboard their product data onto our platform, to help educate customers how to properly dispose of their products. Then using our end-market data, they can design their products and packaging for the end-markets they service, so there’s no more guessing on how to recycle their product, because they were proactive in the production of it.
We don’t just stop there though - local recycling coordinators lack data on how residents engage with their waste programs. With 95% of people getting their information through their mobile device, the waste world needs a a more modern method to communicate. This is where we come in. Several of the features featured in this announcement can be unlocked if your community works with us. If you are reading this and think your local government could benefit for more efficient communication methods - reach out to us or send them this article.
